Summer Open Days 2021

This summer we’ll be opening our doors to the public for a number of weekends over the summer. Come and visit our splendid building, meet some of our volunteers and learn about the historic stained glass. Details of the days we’ll be open are forthcoming so watch this space!

Lectures

Lectures by experts within the field of stained glass are hosted in the spring and autumn. Past lecturers have included Nicola Gordon Bowe, Helen Whittaker, Neil Moat, Sarah Brown, and Sarah Rees Jones, on subjects as diverse as the medieval stained glass of York Minster, contemporary creation and the twentieth-century glass artist Harry Clarke. Our most recent lecture was in October, by Helen Walsh, the Curator of Decorative Arts at the York Museums Trust. Our next lecture will be by Celeste Flower on York Minster’s Rose Window: its almost complete destruction by fire and subsequent restoration by the York Glaziers Trust in the 1980s. Details of this Spring Lecture will be published as soon as they are finalised.

Stained Glass Workshops

A series of introductory practical workshops in painting and leading glass are held each summer. The workshops are led by experienced stained glass artist Ann Sotheran, a Fellow of the British Society of Master Glass Painters. Click here to see dates and how to book!

Walking Tours

During the summer, experts within the field of stained glass lead walking tours of various parish churches in York. For details click here.
